TED Talk Challenge #23: A prosthetic eye to treat blindness

Prosthetic eye diagramEver wondered what the code of the brain looks like? Sheila Nirenberg gives a demonstration with the new prosthetic eye they’ve been working on. Essentially this device replaces the retina’s cells with a digital encoder to mimic the code that is generally sent to the brain through the eyes.

What’s even more amazing is that this technology can be generalised, which means it could be used to assist with hearing and motor skills, and presumably a number of other areas.

I really love this kind of technology. Bring on the cyborgs!
